The group began meeting on Wednesday nights in the basement of St. Andrew’s Church\, with speaker/discussion meetings and a Big Book meeting on the first Wednesday of each month. \n\n\n\nAnd apparently the group had a sense of humor from the beginning. One piece of its recorded history recalls inviting the pastor of St. Andrew’s to speak at the anniversary celebration\, only for him to receive a Styrofoam cup with a hole in it two years in a row! \n\n\n\n41 years later\, the story continues. \n\n\n\nAs we celebrate this anniversary\, we would also like to update the history of the Try It You’ll Like It Group. Their first home at 5 Evergreen Avenue in Warminster didn’t even have chairs\, a coffee pot or coffee when they started. Somehow\, as often happens in A.A.\, the chairs appeared\, the coffee started brewing\, people came through the doors\, and the group grew. \n\n\n\nOver the decades\, Sobriety survived numerous moves and plenty of growing pains while continuing to expand its meetings and service. Along the way\, members carried the message into detoxes and treatment facilities\, provided literature for non-English-speaking alcoholics\, offered sign-language interpretation\, kept the doors open on holidays\, and remained active in District\, Area\, Intergroup and A.A. as a whole. \n\n\n\nFifty years later\, the spirit behind that first meeting continues. Join us for an evening of food\, fun and fellowship beginning at 5:00 PM\, followed by two speakers at 6:00 PM and a 50/50 raffle\, as we celebrate the members who came before us\, those who carry the message today\, and 50 years of Sobriety Group history. In odd-numbered years\, Area committees report on their work and the Assembly discusses matters affecting the Fellowship throughout Area 59.Whether you are a first-time GSR\, an experienced trusted servant\, or simply interested in learning more about how Alcoholics Anonymous functions beyond the group level\, the EPGSA offers an opportunity to gain practical knowledge\, hear diverse perspectives\, and better understand how the group conscience is carried from local meetings to the General Service Conference. \n\n\n\nMembers often leave the Convention and Assembly with renewed enthusiasm for service\, a deeper appreciation of A.A.’s General Service structure\, and practical ideas they can bring back to their home groups.
